Profile
Tan Zhixin graduated from Manchester University with an Upper Second-Class Honours degree and was called to the Bar of England and Wales in November 2019. He was subsequently admitted as an Advocate and Solicitor of the High Court of Malaya on 15 December 2020. He joined the firm on 20 February 2023 as an Associate and was promoted to Senior Associate effective 1 January 2025.
Zhixin’s practice focuses on Dispute Resolution, with particular emphasis on civil litigation involving corporate and commercial disputes, fraud, property and real estate, construction, arbitration, adjudication, insolvency, banking & finance litigation, corporate restructuring, forfeiture of property pursuant to Dangerous Drugs Act (Forfeiture of Property) and AMLA provisions, tax related disputes and appellate proceedings.
Some of the notable matters Zhixin has been involved in are as follows: -
- Assisted in the submission at the High Court trial and subsequent appellate proceedings in the matter of Protasco Bhd v PT Anglo Slavic Utama & Ors [2023] MLJU 2435, where the Court of Appeal affirmed findings of liability for fraud, conspiracy to defraud, breaches of fiduciary and statutory duties, and the misappropriation of approximately USD27 million from Protasco Berhad;
- Assisted in the matter of Federal Court Appeal No. 03-1-06/2024(W) in relation to the issue of judicial discretion to impose interest on judgment sums over non-continuous trespass over land;
- Assisted in the matter of Amanah Raya Bhd v Mesiniaga Bhd [2023] MLJU 3112 whereby the client successfully defended its position in respect of an alleged breach of contract to supply banking software and counterclaimed for unpaid work done by the client.
- Assisted in the matter of CDO Resources Sdn Bhd v MIDF Amanah Investment Bank Bhd [2021] MLJU 787 in relation to a summary judgment for fees paid for an extension of time granted by the client for the plaintiff to repay monies owing under a credit facility agreement.
Zhixin speaks English, Mandarin, and Bahasa Malaysia.
