Michelle is involved in a broad range of civil and commercial disputes, assisting in litigation and arbitration matters across various sectors.

Profile

Michelle Chin Zi Shan graduated from Cardiff University in 2019 and was called to the Bar of England and Wales in 2021. She was subsequently admitted as an Advocate and Solicitor of the High Court of Sabah and Sarawak on 31 May 2022, followed by her admission as an Advocate and Solicitor of the High Court of Malaya on 6 October 2023.

Michelle commenced her pupillage with the firm and, upon completion of her chambers, continued her practice with the firm as an Associate from 23 October 2023. She is involved in a broad range of civil and commercial disputes, assisting in litigation and arbitration matters across various sectors.

Some of her work highlights include:

  • Assisted in a high-stakes, decade-long shareholders' and commercial dispute  centered on a joint venture company with a contract value exceeding USD 200 million.
  • Assisted in acquisition proceedings involving compensation more than RM546 million and RM109 million.
  • Assisted in contractual dispute with claims exceeding RM64 million.
  • Acted for public listed company and its subsidiaries in minority oppression proceedings.
  • Acted in pre-action discovery proceedings.
  • Acted in judicial management proceedings.
  • Acted in various execution and/or enforcement proceedings e.g., bankruptcy, garnishee, writ of seizure and sale, judgment debtor summons, and committal proceedings

Outside of practice, Michelle has been invited on numerous occasions by Taylor’s University to serve as a moot court judge for its mooting program.

She also assisted in the publication of The Law on Land Acquisition (2nd edn, CLJ Publication, 2025), contributing to a leading reference text on Malaysian land acquisition law.

Michelle speaks English, Mandarin, and Bahasa Malaysia.
