Profile
Jing Rui graduated from Cardiff University with an LLB (Hons) in 2021 and completed the Bar Training Course at Cardiff University in 2022. He was called to the Bar of England and Wales by the Honourable Society of Lincoln’s Inn in 2022 and to the Malaysian Bar on 16 August 2024. He joined the firm as a pupil on 3 October 2023 and was retained as an Associate on 30 August 2024.
Jing Rui is an Associate in the Dispute Resolution Department. His practice focuses on corporate and commercial litigation, and he regularly appears as assisting counsel before the High Court, Court of Appeal and Federal Court. He also acts in matters before the Magistrates’ Court and Sessions Court.
Jing Rui has been part of the team acting in the following matters:
- A minority oppression suit which resulted in a winding-up order against the defendant company.
- A claim alleging breaches of fiduciary duties and a shareholders’ agreement, which was dismissed by the High Court.
- Consolidated appeals concerning patent infringement and patent invalidation, involving issues of res judicata and estoppel, where the appeals were allowed, the infringement claim was reinstated, and the invalidation claim was dismissed, with leave to appeal to the Federal Court subsequently refused.
- An application for leave to adduce further evidence, which was allowed on the grounds that the legal requirements were satisfied and in the interest of justice, with leave to appeal subsequently refused by the Federal Court.
- A probate dispute concerning the estate of the late Madam Lim Siew Kim.
Jing Rui has also been involved in advisory and employment-related matters, including:
- A franchise dispute involving a multinational fast-food franchise corporation.
- A potential shareholders’ dispute arising from a share transfer.
- A corporate restructuring involving the transfer or secondment of employees.
- Employee dismissals and the domestic inquiry processes.
- Compliance with Malaysian employment laws and regulations.
Jing Rui speaks English, Mandarin, Bahasa Malaysia and Hokkien.
